Throggs Neck, NY – On the last home game of the season, the Privateers took care of business and swept the Blue Angels of the College of New Rochelle three games to none in non-conference women’s volleyball action Wednesday night. The Privateers were once again led by junior captain Danielle Scicutella (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) who nailed 12 kills, hitting .303 and defended 13 digs in the sweep.

Maritime took the first game by a score of 30-8, their largest margin for victory of the season. Freshman setter Mackenzie Hough (Johnstown, PA/Bishop McCourt) (Johnston, PA/Bishop McCourt) had a huge first game as she started a seven point run which included four of her eight aces on the day. Then on her second time serving this game she finished things out scoring the last two points and giving the Privateers the 1-0 advantage. Games two and three were slightly closer, with some of starters resting on the bench as Coach Escoto made sure he gave everyone that was healthy an opportunity to play in the last home game of the season.

This was the first game that the Privateers had the entire team back from injuries since almost a month ago. Senior middle hitter Rita Martins (Holtsville, NY/Sachem) (Holtsville, Sachem) was honored in this her last home game of her career, this was also her first return to action since breaking her nose two weeks earlier. Also returning was junior middle hitter Anna Kuchin (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) who had suffered a bad ankle sprain almost a month ago, she was only able to play in the third game and picked up five digs.

Freshman outside hitter Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillos, NY/West Genesse) had a solid performance in her first game back since suffering a knee injury in the Privateers last win against Brooklyn College. McVea finished the night with five kills and 15 digs as her kill numbers would have been much higher had she played at outside the entire game.

After picking up their second win of the season, the Privateers will now have a shot at picking up their first conference win of the year as they will travel to Long Island on Friday for a 7pm match against the Panthers of Old Westbury.
